12 important tips for conscious and wholesome food shopping

Last time you learned from Berti what to look for before you go grocery shopping. Today he has summarized for you what is important during shopping. Do you also want to shop consciously, healthy and environmentally friendly? Berti escapes every trap, even the sales traps in the supermarket!

Et voilà, the 12 tips for conscious grocery shopping:

  • As soon as you enter a supermarket, make sure you only buy what is on your shopping list. If you are standing in front of the shelf, really look at the whole shelf – from top to bottom – and not only at the products that are exactly at eye level.
  • Pay attention to the ingredients and additives in packaged foods:
    • What you may already know is that what goes into a product the most is at the top of the ingredients list. After that, the descent continues. The further back an ingredient is listed, the less of it is contained in the product.
    • Hardened fats and a lot of sugar should be avoided. One should also pay attention to the E-numbers: Can a flyer possibly help me to find out which E-numbers my food contains and which I should best avoid?
    • In general, the more ingredients and additives are found in a product, the more unnatural this food is!
  • Check the shelf life – if it says “to be used by…” at the latest, then you should stick to it! If it says “best before…”, the product can often still be consumed after the expiration date à but be careful! Make sure it really hasn’t gone bad yet either!
  • Also checks the condition of the packaging. If packaging is damaged or cans are bloated, leave them alone!
  • Avoids quite heavily iced frozen products. It means that the product has already defrosted once.
  • Also look for quality in your purchase. Don’t just take the cheapest product, look for regional and organic and fair trade productsTipse.
  • Here you can immediately connect and recommend not to buy ready-made meals. Freshly cooked is not only healthier, but you also know what’s inside.
  • Do not buy or eat anything that is advertised in a big and elaborate way – because you pay for the advertising!
  • Checks the freshness of fruits and vegetables. Are there any pressure marks or mold? Nevertheless, it must be remembered that fruits and vegetables are products of nature and do not have to look “perfect”. Also, do not eat anything that is not ripe!
  • Fruit yogurts are also best mixed / pureed at home: Simply put a natural yogurt together with fresh fruit in the blender or puree with a hand blender. The yogurt thus contains more fruit and less sugar than store-bought fruit yogurts. In addition, additives such as flavor or color enhancers are avoided.
  • And now the last of the tips: What is the country of origin of the food? It is best to buy fresh and regional and seasonal.

What you should consider before the grocery shopping, the Berti has already summarized here for you!
