Which types of grain can you grind with which grain mill?

The quantities of flour specified here refer to “fine bread” milled flour from cereals such as wheat, rye, spelt, etc.

The amount of flour per minute is reduced depending on the fineness.
Please also note that the amount of flour to be ground may be reduced when grinding hard types of grain.

You will damage the grinder

1 These types of grain are extremely hard.
Grinding generates a lot of heat, which leads to condensation. Therefore, only grind in small quantities (depending on the type of grinder). Reach into the flour – if it is too hot, switch off the grinder and ventilate the grinding chamber after grinding.
See operating instructions

Depending on the fineness, you can grind the following quantities:

  • MAX Special approx. 250 grams
  • MT 12 approx. 500 to 1,000 grams
  • MT 18 approx. 1,000 grams

When ordering a mill, we ask you to point out the use of kamut and hard wheat.

2 Maize: There are many different types of maize.
The common edible maize in Austria and Germany is no problem for the labeled mills.
However, in Italy in particular, there are very old, particularly oily and hard varieties, some of which we know cannot be ground.
Unfortunately, we cannot test and list all types of maize.

3 Amaranth is a very small grain. During grinding, a lot of heat is generated and there is a risk of the grinding stones sticking together.

4 Lupinia in small quantities, with other cereal grains

What you cannot grind:

In general, no oil-containing seeds can be ground, such as:

  • Linseed
  • Mustard seeds
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Poppy seed
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Nuts
  • Almonds

You cannot grind due to the consistency:

  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Tea
  • Blossoms
  • Leaves
  • Buds
  • Grasses
  • Sprouts
  • small timbers
  • Dried small fruits and berries
  • Chestnuts
  • Various cores

It is not recommended to grind coffee. Color and odor penetrate the grindstone, cleaning is very difficult. If you only want to grind coffee, please get in touch with us
