Granola? What is that actually? Basically, granola is a crunchy cereal. Traditionally, cereal flakes – often in combination with nuts or fruits – are sweetened with honey or syrup and baked in the oven. Of course, here again: there are no limits to experimentation and the ingredients can be varied as desired.
Granola can be enjoyed for breakfast in (vegetable) milk or as a snack between meals. It also works well as a topping on ice cream. And for those who want to avoid the granola from the supermarket and thus packaging or possible unwanted additives, today we have a recipe for your own crunchy granola.
For your homemade granola you need the following ingredients:
- 4 cups cereal flakes
- Whether oat or spelt flakes, is entirely up to you! You can flake the grain with the

- Whether oat or spelt flakes, is entirely up to you! You can flake the grain with the
- 1 cup nuts (hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, etc.)
- 1 cup seeds/seeds (sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc.)
- optional coconut flakes
- a pinch of salt
- Cinnamon powder or vanilla pulp to taste
- ¼ cup oil (olive or coconut oil)
- 1 cup honey or syrup (agave, maple syrup, etc.)
- Optional dried fruit (raisins, berries, apples) – mix in only after baking.
And this is how it works:
Before you start preparing, you can already preheat the oven to ~180°C.
Then first mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Then add the oil and honey/syrup. Mix everything together.
Spread the mixture on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake for about 25 minutes. Be careful not to burn your granola.
When it’s ready, your crunchy granola should still be cooling and will only firm up then, too. Finally, you can put it in a jar and store it. Ready!
We wish you good luck!
