Wholegrain porridge with winter spices

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup wholemeal oat flakes (you can also use other wholemeal flakes such as spelt or rye)
  • 2 cups of milk (or a plant-based alternative such as almond or oat milk)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of ground cloves
  • A pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup (optional, depending on taste)
  • Fresh fruit of your choice (e.g. pieces of apple or pear)
  • A handful of roasted nuts (e.g. walnuts, almonds or pecans)

Instructions:

  1. Preparing the porridge: In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over a medium heat.
    Add the wholegrain oats and stir.
  2. Add the spices: Add the cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
    Stir everything well to distribute the spices evenly.
  3. Cook: Allow the porridge to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has reached the desired consistency.
    If you prefer a thinner porridge, you can add more milk.
  4. Sweeten: Remove the porridge from the heat and sweeten to taste with honey or maple syrup.
  5. Serve: Place the porridge in a bowl.
    Add fresh fruit and a handful of roasted nuts for extra texture and nutrients.
  6. Enjoy: Serve the warm porridge immediately and enjoy a nutritious and warming winter breakfast.
