Salzburg grain mill on board Traumschiff MS Berlin

Salzburger Mühle on board Traumschiff MS Berlin in 1987 and an angry dispatcher who wanted to throw them off the train.

Werner Ultsch still remembers his voyage on the MS Berlin today. Under no circumstances did the enthusiastic pioneer of wholefood cuisine want to do without his Salzburg grain mill when he set off as a chef on an exclusive culinary journey from Innsbruck to Genoa for a boat tour.

He had never cooked on a ship before and it was his job to convince the guests of the natural cuisine, which was not very well known at the time, and to spoil them. That’s why he didn’t want to do without his mill under any circumstances.

Pioneers of wholefoods were on board at the time , including Barbara Rütting, Baldur Preiml and others.

Mr. Ultsch still remembers the long train journey with a grin when, when changing trains in Verona, the dispatcher angrily tried to remove the heavy traveling companion (80 kg) from the carriage.

Fortunately for the chef and guests of the Traumschiff, the “Salzburgerin” was too heavy for him.
