Plastic

The plastic or colloquially plastic, is the material of modern times. If you look around you, you will see that you are surrounded by plastic: the toothbrush you used to brush your teeth in the evening, the coffee machine, the cell phone, the ballpoint pen, the shopping bag in the supermarket and much more. The potential uses for plastic are just as great as the list of problems and risks associated with this material is long. Synthetic plastics are derived from crude oil, coal and natural gas. The most common starting material for plastics production is raw gasoline (naphtha). Many chemicals used to make plastics are extremely toxic. Since the chemicals are not firmly bound in the plastic, they can escape over time. They pass into the environment and are also absorbed by the human body. The composition of plastics is often secret. In many cases, the beverage or toy producers also do not know the exact composition of the plastic material supplied.

Hormonally active substances have particularly far-reaching effects. These include, above all, plasticizers (phthalates), bisphenol A (BPA), brominated flame retardants and organotin compounds. These chemicals can dissolve out of the plastic. Avoid products made of PVC and PC, as well as products with a strong “plastic smell”. These can be carcinogenic and render infertile.
