old traditional milling

For more than 40 years the look of this mill has remained unchanged, elegant, timelessly attractive.
dsc06615The Queen of Mills, the Mercedes etc. they are the compliments we both receive and read about. Quite rightly so, if you consider that there is hardly any other mill on the market which has been so successful for such a long time.
I have known this mill since I was a child and my children will grow old with it That is just how a mill should be, built to last for generations, a true value!

For more than 3 decades we have been learning how to construct mills and therefore know what is really important.
True, quite a lot has changed since we started: New, modern synthetic materials have appeared on the market, the man-made corundum-ceramic mill-stone was developed. A lot has happened with regard to technology (new geometry for the milling mechanism, new adjustment mechanisms etc.)
We have always worked enthusiastically on technical innovations, however we do reject the idea of modernising the materials used (plastic instead of wood). Traditionally we prefer to retain old values and strive to construct this mill as naturally as possible.
Designed in genuine, hard beech wood, its heart is a mill-stone made of naturally formed granite.
Wherever technically justifiable we do not use plastic or metal materials in those parts of the mill which come into contact with the flour.
Neither the outer metal ring – essential to the design of the mill- nor the flour ejector (inside completely lined with wood) comes into contact with the flour. In this regard we also pay special attention to the milling chamber which (except the stone carriers and the mill-stone) is built from hard beech wood.
Single-handed opening of the mill guarantees easy and fast cleaning.

Of course the MT 5 can process corn, rice, soy beans etc.  You also can produce grits with a Carina, so that your breakfast Müsli is easily ready for you in no time.
The housing made through and through of solid, hard beech-wood is protected by biological beeswax.
Both the milling chamber are also made  of hard beech wood, with no surface treatment
The naturally formed granite selected by us is a completely naturally formed product, free from additives, nature pure. The natural granite millstones are self-sharpening, extremely hard with its 90 mm diameter. The geometry of the milling mechanism has been designed according to the latest findings, the stones are flexibly positioned for better protection against damage to the grinding mechanism caused by foreign particles in the grain.

salzburger-getreidemuehle-mt5-buche-mahlsteinMilling with granite: From the beginning of mankind naturally formed stones have been used to mill grain. The surface of naturally mined granite is smoother than the surface of corundum-ceramic mill-stones.
This may be the reason, together with its natural origin, for the difference in quality of flour when compared with that milled with corundum-ceramic mill-stones. There is no scientific explanation. Nevertheless there seems to be a difference.

Rough/Fine Controls:salzburger-getreidemuehle-mt5-buche-drehknopf
Single-handed operation makes selection of the degree of fineness required easy, even during the milling process, the selected setting can be reproduced and always guarantees the same fine or coarse flour
Older, more experienced bakers have tasted this Natural-stone Flour and have given their true judgement in good Austrian dialect as follows Des is halt no a Möh! which means in good old  English That is a real old flour.
The convincing baking characteristics of flour produced by milling with natural mill-stones have been confirmed time and again by farmers, bakers, hobby cooks and recognised top chefs.
Its milling results together with its solid and massive design is the reason that we export our Natural Stone Mill MT 5 all over the world,  in order to achieve the greatest joy in milling and baking!
Fully convinced ourselves we wish to highly recommend this mill!

Keep your eyes open when buying a mill! Have a good thorough look not only with regard to the optics of the mill, but consider also its inner values.

1 review for Salzburger Grain Mill MT 5

  1. Laurie and John

MT5 Salzburger Getreidemühlen einfach und elegant!

We received our MT5 today all the way from Austria to North- Vancouver, BC, Canada. The packaging was excellent, the mill arrived whole, unblemished and 100% operational.
Of course as expected there was an instruction manual in English which points out some important features of care, operation and maintenance .
Our first test was to try our hardest grain, Durum wheat. It took the mill about 1:45 min to process 1 cup into very fine flour. The milled flour was not too hot either, impressive!

The beautiful wood construction along with a very robust electric motor makes this a work of unparalleled simplicity and design.
Keep in mind that if you live in North America, there is a small additional cost to convert the plug and motor. The customs costs were all very reasonable coming through Canada Post as well.
The heart and soul of the mill are of course the natural granite mill stones. When opening the housing to examine the stones one is impressed with the high level of craftsmanship and skill involved . Above all are the 12 year warranty for the mill and 24 year warranty for the stones!
Now there are no longer any excuses to purchase store bought flours.
This is an investment that is a commitment to eating healthier and of course tastier foods.

We highly recommend this product if you looking for a top class high quality grain mill, look no further.
